Research

My Phd research is focused on an examination of physical interactions with electronic music composition, primarily in performance situations in the studio, the extension and blurring of the identity of the composer to include the instrument designer and engineer and the notion of the composition extending into the physical manifestation of the particluar instrument itself.

The traces of physical interaction through performance in a live situation are also central to the relationship bewteen the instrument design and the resulting sonic output. To this end I am designing and making synthesizer modules, both from a sonic and interface point of view, as well as performing regularly with the Monosynth Orchestra and with several other performers and ensembles.
